I was only curious of the title when I picked up this book. After I read every words in it, I feel that it is a really special book that could be life changing. I’ve already read a lot of books about Holocaust and World War Two, but this book is not like any other book I’ve read before. It was told from the views of Death, who is always refer to the “best friend of war”. In the story, Death saw the war that Germany brought as ugly; However, Death thought normal German people like Liesel as beautiful. This kind of perspective tells us the story and struggle of normal people during war, and it let me think about stuffs in opposite sides. Zusak compare and contrast these opposite sides, and that is what make this story not only special but touch my heart. For example, the war has brought poverty, famine and death to Liesel’s world but the affection she had with Papa, Max and Rudy can let them forget about all the sufferings. This is the best WW2 book.
