I read Loot by Jude Watson. Three people are robbing a rich woman's house. The woman just happens to be a cursed stone collector. They steal a necklace made out of magic moonstones and what is said to be the largest diamond in the world aka, the makepeace diamond. One of the people break the necklace on accident and they take the stones. Later on, one of the thieves that stole the moonstones got murdered by getting pushed off of a building. His kid was left with the words "Find Jewel". The kid finds out that jewels actually meant Jules, a nickname for his twin sister that he never met. They get sent to Polestar House. While there, that meet a few friends. The children devise a plan to break out and roam free. When they get out, the boy uses the emergency pack that his dad packed. Inside are clues to help the kids get rich. They find a woman who wants the moonstones to see her fate and is willing to pay $7,000,000 to the person that gives her the stones. The kids steal from others to get the stones. The twin girl's people steal the moonstones for the money and the kids switch it out for fakes. The twins get cursed by the stones and are stuck on a cliff with the girl hanging on the boys arm. The boy sees a counter curse in his mind and throws the stones off the cliff. The children go to a restaurant that's owner was friends with the boy's dad. The owner remembers that the boy's dad used to carve ducks out of soap with a razor blade. In the emergency pack, there was a reason and a normal bar of soap. They scraped away at the soap until they found the makepeace diamond. The kids later sold it for some money, aka a lot. And lived happily ever after.
