從蘇美爾人的楔形文字、古埃及的象形文字、腓尼基人的字母、希臘文、拉丁文的發(fā)展一直到印刷術(shù)、打字機、到當今計算機的使用,信息量很大,書末附錄詞匯表和地圖都很有用,算是本不錯的參考書。
可惜該書虎頭蛇尾,因此只能給出三星。前五章除了線性文字內(nèi)容過于粗略外,其他幾種古文字的介紹都比較清晰到位,還有相應的破譯經(jīng)歷,可見作者下了功夫;越往后越有拼湊嫌疑,中國文字沒有安排在古文字部分,而是放在書法之后,有些奇怪,但內(nèi)容尚可,最后兩章就絕對是湊數(shù)了,不如刪去。
