But there were only a few feathers left in the nest, the baby falcons were gone. Josh reported the weird thing to the Department of Environmental Protection. Someone was going to go out there and take a look. Josh thought a human snake stole the falcons. The children found a baby falcon with a narrow metal band around the leg. They took it to Doc Henry’s office. Doc Henry examined the falcon. He said that someone’s trimmed falcon’s wing feathers. And then he kept the falcon a couple days. The children told Curt that someone clipped the falcon’s wing feathers and put a tag on his leg. Curt guessed that someone was training him to do something. Josh thought Grace was the suspect, so they came back to Vet’s to see Flash. But Flash was gone. The lock of the gate had been shattered into pieces. Josh and Ruth Rose thought Grace was the suspect, but Dink didn’t. Then, they went to the library to search more information about the peregrine falcons, so they could figure out why someone’s taking them. The children learned that the falcons could fly 200 miles an hour, so someone might be training them to race for earning money. Officer Fallon couldn’t get any fingerprints on the gate. But Dink peered at the leg band through the glass. He saw some letters and numbers on it: GLKS-6-17. The children wanted to told Curt what letters on the leg band was, so they came to Curt’s cabin. But he was not there. Furthermore, the children found at least a dozen of falcons in the shed. Curt was angry with the children, and then he slammed down the window flap. The children were locked in the shed by Curt. And they learned that Curt was spelled with a K, not a C, GLKS meant Green Lawn Kurt Striker. They smashed a hole in the roof top, and then climbed out the shed. As soon as they were on the ground, the kids ran toward Main Street and the police station. Finally, Kurt Striker was sent into a jail. (展開) |
