First, Lucas’s Dad checked everyone was fine.
Dust and jagged glass were everywhere. Dad clicked on the light. He told everyone to stay together and put a piece of clothing in front of mouth.
Dad guessed the top part of the building had come down.
After they walked out of the store, they saw that twisted steel beams and big chunks of concrete filled the streets. Cars on fire. The scene reminded Lucas of war.
The entire building collapsed. All turned into dust.
Lucas didn’t want to think people were left in the building. They headed north.
As they reached Chambers Street, the dust cleared. However, nothing would never be the same again.
Ch 12
Lucas stood at the edge of the field. He was a helper to new couch. He wasn’t on the team anymore. But he hadn’t lost football. Or the guys. He still needed a few seconds to pull himself together. It was tough for him, but it would be easier, as time passed.
After he and Dad had reached the firehouse, they got some horrors. The second tower collapsing, a plane had crashed into the Pentagon, and that another plane had crashed in Pennsylvania.
The firefighters were back, one by one, except Uncle Benny. Lucas and Dad sat on the floor of the firehouse. They were waiting and praying. They knew Uncle Benny was safe until early in the evening. Uncle Benny had come down the stairs of the North Tower a minute before it collapsed.
