2020年五年級的寒假就很漫長，但完成的英文閱讀書籍并不多。終于看完了從11月就開始看的17萬字的《story of mankind – 房龍歷史》，16萬字的《sophie’s world》學校英文作業(yè)要看《奇跡男孩》《maniac magee》《when you reach me》，還要寫讀后感等，所以重新閱讀。差不多花了3周看完了《sophie’s world》, UG7.3 哲學啟蒙之書，對5年級女孩的心智來說，并沒太大的吸引力。但是她也被啟蒙了幾大哲學家，涉及柏拉圖，亞里士多德，蘇格拉底，黑格爾，馬克思，達爾文，比如PLUTO和亞里士多德。小妞喜歡Plato的理論，她說，“anybody could be a philosopher, no matter beggars or noblemen. The beggars are as capable as everyone else. The point is that thinking is not connected with people’s status in the world. Plato thought that everyone is equal. He thought that women are as capable as men. Meanwhile, Aristotle thought that women are a piece of unfinished work. He thought that women doesn’t have this ability of thinking. He thought that they are weak. His idea is not correct of course. However, it is his thought that had an impact on the generations later on. This idea STUCK.” 《sophie’s world》和《房龍歷史》有不少部分內(nèi)容重疊，開啟了孩子的人文世界觀

小朋友對二戰(zhàn)不熟悉，更談不上著迷，也許是年齡還不夠大？（雖然身為女生，我只記得自己小時候是很迷二戰(zhàn)的。）薄薄一本小書，非常言簡意賅地介紹下了一下二戰(zhàn)，覆蓋面也算是比較全面了：交代了二戰(zhàn)起因、兩大陣營、兩大戰(zhàn)場、雙方著名的領(lǐng)導人，猶太人集中營、重要的幾個戰(zhàn)役，原子彈、戰(zhàn)爭如何結(jié)束，在我看來算是比較詳盡了。但是不了解背后細節(jié)的小朋友看起來可能會有點囫圇吞棗的感覺。不過這套書也就只是針對小學生，讓他們粗淺地了解下歷史，所以也算是相當?shù)牟诲e了。除了一些耳熟能詳?shù)亩?zhàn)知識，因為畢竟是米國的教材，focus在美國較多，有些角度也算是比較獨特的吧。書中有介紹the Novajo Code（很久以前看過電影Windtalker知道的），Rosie the Riveter（我真是第一次知道這位著名的女士叫Rosie,而且是一個鉚工）……不過最讓我印象深刻的是介紹了interment camps——有關(guān)二戰(zhàn)中在美國的日本人的境遇。知道這段歷史，但從未深究過，所以即使是淺淺地介紹，讀起來也是挺讓人深思的。尤其會不由地聯(lián)想到如今的中美局勢以及在美的華人境遇，不由地會有些感慨。有趣的是，即使小朋友不太了解二戰(zhàn)，但是她也曾看過一些著名的二戰(zhàn)相片，比如說麥克阿瑟涉水登陸和硫磺島插國旗。我告訴她那個涉水登陸是麥克阿瑟事前算好了潮水的漲落而自己設計的“作秀”；那個硫磺島真正勝利時插的是面小旗子，這個是第二天換了大旗子又擺拍的。小朋友聽了以后吃驚了一下，沉默了一會，問了我一句話：“world war II是真的有這場戰(zhàn)爭嗎？”哈哈哈哈??，我只回答她：“學會懷疑是件好事?！?/a>
