賞春花

Mom: Winter is over and spring is here.

媽媽：冬天過(guò)去了，春天來(lái)了。

Would you like to go out and take a walk and see the flowers?

你想出去走走，看看花嗎？

Child: Mommy, I would love to.

寶寶：媽媽，我挺想去的。

I will put my shoes on right now!

Child: What are those yellow ones growing out of the ground over there?
寶寶: 那邊地上長(zhǎng)的小黃的是什么呀？

Mom: Those are daffodils!

媽媽：那些是水仙花！

Daffodil讀作 ['d?f?dil]。

They are the first flowers of spring.

它們是春天最先開(kāi)花的。

They have six petals and the middle looks like a little cup.

它們有六片花瓣，中間的看起來(lái)像個(gè)小杯子。

They will last for about a month.

它們能開(kāi)大約一個(gè)月。

Then the flower will wither.

然后花兒就會(huì)枯萎。

Child: Can I smell them, Mommy?

寶寶：我能聞聞它們嗎，媽媽？

Mom: Of course!

媽媽：當(dāng)然可以！

Child: They smell really nice!

寶寶：它們聞起來(lái)好香??！

Mommy, what is that big beautiful pink flower on that tree?

媽媽，那棵樹(shù)上的粉色大花是什么??？

Mom: That is a magnolia.

媽媽：那是木蘭。

Magnolia讀作 [m?g'n?uli?]。

A magnolia is an icon of early spring.

木蘭是早春的標(biāo)志。

It has large flowers.

它的花朵很大。

Normally it has 6 very large petals.

它一般有6片大花瓣。

They only bloom for a couple of weeks and then fall off the tree.

它們只能開(kāi)幾周，然后就從樹(shù)上落下了。

以下四個(gè)詞都可以做動(dòng)詞表示開(kāi)花，口語(yǔ)中常用順序是：bloom > come out > flower > blossom。但是，blossom專指果樹(shù)開(kāi)花。

Cherry blossom 櫻花③

Child: Mommy, what are those little flowers on that tree?

寶寶：媽媽，那棵樹(shù)上的小花是什么呀？

Mom: That is the cherry blossom tree.

媽媽：那是櫻花樹(shù)。

Cherry blossom比日文譯音sakura更常用。櫻花樹(shù)的主要功能是觀賞，因此它的英文翻譯是cherry blossom tree，櫻花樹(shù)和cherry tree-櫻桃樹(shù)開(kāi)的花都叫cherry blossom。

It's something that is very special in Asia.

它是亞洲特有的。

They bloom for around 14 days, and then they fall from the tree.

它們能開(kāi)大約14天，然后就從樹(shù)上落下了。

They have 5 petals normally, but some can have ten or twenty.

它們一般有5片花瓣，但有的能有10片或者20片。

In Japan, they have picnics under cherry blossom trees to celebrate spring.

在日本，人們會(huì)在櫻花樹(shù)下野餐來(lái)慶祝春天的來(lái)臨。

Mom: Look over there at all those colorful flowers.

媽媽：過(guò)來(lái)看這些五顏六色的花呀。

Child: Oh wow, there is yellow, red, and purple!

寶寶：哇，有黃色、紅色，還有紫色！

What are those called, Mommy?

它們叫什么呀，媽媽？

Mom: They are called tulips, and they symbolize love.

媽媽：它們叫郁金香，它們象征著愛(ài)。

They grow in many colors like red, orange, pink, and yellow.

它們有很多種顏色，比如紅色、橘黃色、粉色和黃色。

They bloom for up to six weeks before they wither and die.

它們最多能開(kāi)六周，然后就會(huì)枯萎和死去。

They grow from a bulb and will grow every year.

它們從一個(gè)球莖長(zhǎng)起，每年都會(huì)生長(zhǎng)。

Child: And what are those purple ones up there?

Mom: Those are called lilacs.

They grow on bushes not trees.

Each individual flower is small, but they grow in clusters to produce an abundant display of blooms.

Their colors include white, pink, and purple.

它們有白色的、粉色的，還有紫色的。

Child: Mommy, I love spring!

II. Other Common Spring Flowers in China

其他中國(guó)春天常見(jiàn)的花

1. Japanese plum blossom 梅花⑩

由于日本對(duì)外交流開(kāi)始得比較早，很多亞洲的事物是最先從日本傳到西方的，因此英語(yǔ)翻譯會(huì)在前面加上Japanese，或者采用的日語(yǔ)譯音。小雅認(rèn)為，管它叫Chinese plum blossom也是可以的。

2. Japanese magnolia 玉蘭?

管它叫Chinese magnolia也是可以的。

Flower泛指所有的花，blossom專指果樹(shù)開(kāi)的花。很多果樹(shù)開(kāi)的花都可以通過(guò)果子名稱+blossom表示，如peach blossom 桃花，以及下文的幾種花。
