Using "some" before numbers
some 用在數(shù)字之前,表示 “ 大約 ”
原文
There are some 500 million dog salive
today and over 400 recognized breeds.
In this sentence, the speaker put
"some" in front of the number, why?
What does it mean?
In this case, the determiner "some"
means "approximately". What's the
difference between them?
Using "some" before a number can
suggest an unexpectedly high amount.
Here it means there are a lot of dogs

It indicates that the number is sur-prising
or unexpected.
