美國(guó)總統(tǒng)奧巴馬是如何看待開學(xué)這件小事的吧！

No matter what grade you're in, some of you are probably wishing it were still summer and you could've stayed in bed just a little bit longer this morning. I know that feeling and I know that some of you are still adjusting to being back at school。

不管是在讀幾年級(jí)，許多人都打心底里希望現(xiàn)在還是暑假，今早還能多睡一小會(huì)。我理解這心情，我知道你們有些人還在適應(yīng)開學(xué)后的生活。

不愧是過(guò)來(lái)人，總統(tǒng)先生也體會(huì)頗深，小時(shí)候肯定也是抱著媽媽大腿，求著不要去學(xué)校的孩子?！癐 don’t want to go to school(我不想去學(xué)校)”，也是他孩童時(shí)期的心里寫照耶。

不過(guò)，從學(xué)生時(shí)代再到少年，總統(tǒng)先生迷茫過(guò)，也荒唐過(guò)。從一個(gè)“不折不扣的迷途叛逆少年”到走入政途，最終成為美國(guó)第一屆當(dāng)選的非洲裔總統(tǒng)，他感慨頗多。作為一個(gè)過(guò)來(lái)人，奧巴馬總統(tǒng)告訴我們教育對(duì)個(gè)人和國(guó)家都具有非凡的意義。

教育提供給你發(fā)現(xiàn)自己的機(jī)會(huì)

I want to start with the responsibility you have to yourself. Every single one of you has something that you're good at. Every single one of you has something to offer. And you have a responsibility to yourself to discover what that is. That's the opportunity an education can provide.

首先我想談?wù)勀銈儗?duì)自己應(yīng)盡的責(zé)任。你們中的每個(gè)人都有自己擅長(zhǎng)的領(lǐng)域，每個(gè)人都是有用之才。發(fā)現(xiàn)自己的才能所在，就是你們要對(duì)自己擔(dān)起的責(zé)任，而教育給你們提供了發(fā)現(xiàn)自己的機(jī)會(huì)。

教育讓你成為國(guó)家的棟梁之才

And this isn't just important for your own life and your own future. What you make of your education will decide nothing less than the future of this country. The future of America depends on you. What you're learning in school today will determine whether we as a nation can meet our greatest challenges in the future. 這不僅僅對(duì)你們個(gè)人的未來(lái)有重要意義，可以毫不夸張地說(shuō)，你們的教育如何會(huì)對(duì)這個(gè)國(guó)家的未來(lái)產(chǎn)生重要影響。國(guó)家的未來(lái)取決于你們。今天你們?cè)趯W(xué)校中學(xué)習(xí)的內(nèi)容，將會(huì)決定我們整個(gè)國(guó)家在未來(lái)迎接重大挑戰(zhàn)時(shí)的表現(xiàn)。

不要讓失敗定義自己

Some of the most successful people in the world are the ones who've had the most failures. These people succeeded because they understood that you can't let your failures define you -- you have to let your failures teach you. You have to let them show you what to do differently the next time.

在這個(gè)世界上，最成功的人們往往也經(jīng)歷過(guò)最多的失敗。他們的成功，源于他們知道不能讓失敗左右自己 —— 而是要從中吸取經(jīng)驗(yàn)，從失敗中你能明白下一次可以做出怎樣的改變。

So if you get into trouble, that doesn't mean you're a troublemaker, it means you need to try harder to act right. If you get a bad grade, that doesn't mean you're stupid, it just means you need to spend more time studying.

假如你惹了麻煩，那不說(shuō)明你就是個(gè)搗蛋鬼，而意味著你需要更加努力去把它做好。假如你考了個(gè)低分，不表示你比別人笨，只能說(shuō)明你需要更多的時(shí)間去學(xué)習(xí)。

And even when you're struggling, even when you're discouraged, and you feel like other people have given up on you, don't ever give up on yourself, because when you give up on yourself, you give up on your country.

即便你苦苦掙扎、灰心喪氣，覺得身邊的人都拋棄了你，你也不要放棄自己。當(dāng)你放棄自己，你也放棄了自己的國(guó)家。

聽了總統(tǒng)先生的話，還是不想去上學(xué)嗎？借用龍應(yīng)臺(tái)對(duì)孩子說(shuō)的一段話：

孩子，要求你讀書用功，不是因?yàn)橐愀鷦e人比成績(jī)，而是因?yàn)?，希望你將?lái)會(huì)擁有選擇的權(quán)利，選擇有意義、有時(shí)間的工作，而不是被迫謀生。當(dāng)你的工作在你心中有意義，你就有成就感。當(dāng)你的工作給你時(shí)間，不剝奪你的生活，你就有尊嚴(yán)。成就感和尊嚴(yán)，給你快樂。
