1. A list of tools we use in a science lab: 

(1) hand lens 
(2) ruler 
(3) balance 
(4) thermometer 
(5) measuring cup 

2. Why do we use tools? 

Science tools help us learn about things more efficiently 

3. What do we use these tools for? 

(1) A hand lens makes things look bigger - so that you can observe sth. better with a hand lens 
(2) A ruler tells you how long sth. is - you measure the length of sth. with a ruler 
(3) A balance shows which object is heavier - so that you can compare their mass/weights 
(4) A thermometer shows how warm or cold sth. is - you record the temperature of sth. with a thermometer 
(4) A measuring cup tells you how much water there is - you measure the volume of liquid with a measuring cup
