這本書叫《From The Mixed Up Files of Mrs Basil E. Frankweiler(巴茲爾弗蘭維勒太太的混亂檔案)》,由E.L. Konigsburg(E?L?

On Reading Everyday
Importance of Reading
There are many reasons to read and many more to read everyday. I will list some practical reasons to read everyday. Also I willshare my reading experiences growing up and now as I continue my habit and joy of reading.
Reading is important. Simply: It makes you smarter. There are many analogies for reading:
- It’s food for your brain: The more you feed it, the more it develops.
- It’s exercise for your brain: The more you practice a skill, the better it becomes.
- It’s science: Reading is probably the most complicated task your brain can do. Studies show that the brain shows increased activity and new neural connections after reading just one novel.
On a practical note reading can
- increase knowledge
- learn new vocabulary
- improve memory
- lead to greater analytical thinking skills
- improve focus and concentration
- lead to better writing skills
Why read 20 minutes a day?
For The Future
In my opinion reading everyday is one the most important things a child can do. And the earlier a child learns the habit of reading: the better their academic performance is through out school; thus they are able to enter and excel in top universities. After they leave university their job prospects are better and therefore they will have a better overall quality of life. (See the chart below)
For Fun
Reading everyday can develop the skills that make reading fun. Once a child masters reading comprehension skills a whole world of literature is open to a child. Reading is lifetime opportunity to continue to learn new things and have fun.
The Power of Ideas
But, to me, one of the most important reasons for reading everyday is personal growth. Reading everyday leads to thinking everyday and as children are exposed to new ideas they are much more able tomake sense of themselves and the world around them.
Family Time
Reading everyday also offers the opportunity for some much needed family time. If the whole family takes 20 minutes a day to read, it can provide time together doing a shared activity. And the parents can act as role model for the kids.
Keith, Do you read 20 minutes a day?
Yes, I do —more even.
But not because I think it makes me smarter or Ican make more money. But because when I was a child I discovered the joy of reading and that led to a lifelong habit of reading. I read now because I love reading. I love reading non-fiction and learning more about the world and how it works. But most of all I love fiction —Literature. I love stories. I love being able to escape into different worlds and explore new ideas and contemplate how others see the world. And I can do this everyday! Awesome!
Starting this week I will talk about what I’m reading.
This week I just finished a great book that I’m surprised I didn’t read as a child —and I wish I had: From The Mixed Up Files of MrsBasil E. Frankweiler by E.L. Konigsburg.
It’sa wonderful book with one of the most important messages that children —and indeed adults too—can learn: Learning something new can help people grow on the inside. That the effort we put into what do makes us different from other people. And when we feel uneasy or lost, we can turn to learning —books even —to find ourselves as long as the effort is genuine.
I can’t wait to share this book with my students.
So perhaps the greatest reason to read everyday is that it can help children —and indeed everyone —find who they truly are.
