看來這一章是本書最為重要的一個章節(jié)了,因為作者在書中有這樣的一段話:
If you do this one technique, and ignoring the rest of this book, you will make a positive difference in your child's ability to read.
是不是這就意味著,我們只要按照此章節(jié)所介紹的方法,逐一推進,就會收獲綿綿呢?讓我們試目以待吧。
Information to Remember:
1)The Right Selection for Your Child
Independent Level: A child can read a selection on this level fluently with good expression, by herself, and have 95 to 100 percent accuracy.A quick way to determine readabilty is the 1:20 rule - your child should misread no more than one in every twenty words.
Instructional Level: At this level your child should have 90 to 95 percent accuracy. She should make no more than one or two mistakes per twenty words.
Frustration Level: At this level your child has less than 90 percent accuracy. Her body signls are going to tell you that the selection is too frustrating; she'll begin to fidget, tap her fingers, swing her feet, or cry.Why make her do something that blocks her progress and reinforces her dislike of reading?
2) Your child's reading for fun selctions should be on her Independent Level and the leaning to read selections must be on her Instructional Level. It isn't as important what your child reads, as long as she does lots of it.If your child reads lots of easy books on her Independent Level every day, her reading skills will improve.Sight words will become automatic.Your child will read more fluently.Soon she will get bored and choose more interesting selections.
3) To, With and By: A Method to Improve Fluency
To: Choose a short selection on your child's Instructional Reading Level.Read at a natural speed, running your finger under the words.Your child should be looking at words in the book.Read the same sentences again to her.
With: Read the same sentences with your child twice.
By:Ask your child to read on her own.Help her fix a miscalled word. She should reread the sentence.Have her read the selecion twice by herself.
4) Let's say that you've done To, With, and By, and you want to finish the book. You can finish the book dring fun reading time, or use another reading technique: read it alternatively.Alternating reading is when you read a paragraph out loud and your child reads the next paragraph.Alternating reading helps your child's comprehension, and it keeps her involve while the book is being read.
