Students, parents, teachers, and staff are stepping back in time to the 1900s to celebrate SAS’ history.
September 17, 2012 is the Founders' day centennial finale. It is a way to reflect on our school’s rich history and have some fun. This is a school wide event, and will include a school parade on both campuses.
We are asking that all students, teachers (and any parents that want to participate) get in the spirit and dress up in early 1900s clothing and walk in the parade. There will be special guests, a performance of our school song, and much more fun.
Puxi all school begins at 8:30am.
Pudong all school begins at 1:30pm.
The school is paying homage to those who built our school.
In 1911, nine official representatives were appointed by their sponsoring missions to serve on a committee to draw up detailed plans for creating an American school in China. Shanghai was chosen as the location because of its accessibility—as the premier port in China, as well its presence of large missionary and non-missionary community.
After a year of hard work by these founders, on September 17, 1912 SAS opened its doors to 38 students at a site in Hongkew. They came from missionary families, as well as business, consular, and military service personnel.
