Ever wonder what the middle ages are like? You don't have to read boring history books to learn about that time period, you can find relatively everything in this "measly middle ages" book including "fun" facts. From everyday life in Feudalism to diseases and medicine, the middle ages is something interesting to read about.
Feudalism is a structure of society in Europe at that time. God makes people believe that kings have the right to rule, and kings in return make his land a very religious place. Kings give land to lords and ladies, in return lords give strong armies to kings. Lords and ladies provide knights shelter and training, in return knights fight for their lords. Most people are in the two lowest society: free peasants and serfs (sort of like slaves). Lords give free peasants land to farm but they have to pay taxes to their lords. Lords give serfs shelter and protection but themselves and their family have to work for the lord, it's like the serfs are the property of lords. Which of these would you like to be? They all have great responsibilities!
After reading about Feudalism, the book give us an account on towns, churches (A very important part of the middle ages), schools... It also tells us about the food, entertainment and medicine at that time. I like reading about the entertainment and medicine. The entertainment is described as somewhat cruel but I like the description about plays and games back then. The medicine though was horrible. I wonder how doctors in the middle ages thought of such disgusting and torturing cures such as letting blood out of someone's skin to let the evil spirit out of a patient's body... People were such religious they thought this was right!
Anyways, this book contains some useful information so read it and enjoy the fun. Maybe some day you would travel back to the middle ages, this perhaps would be a guide, who knows?
