I’ve always considered Grace Lin’s story either mystical, or realistic. “Where the mountain meets the moon” is the first type. It is a magical and exciting story about a girl on a journey with a dragon to find the answers to their questions. Minli, the girl, is trying to find and bring fortune to her village; Dragon is desperate to find why he can’t fly. They both goes through a thrilling journey to find the “old man of the moon”. Meanwhile, Minli’s villagers and parents is very worried about Minli. Most people think that she is crazy, but her parents still has faith in her. As Minli and Dragon travel, they don’t know but they had already found some answers to their questions by meeting people that inspire them.
What I love about this novel are three things: First, the beautiful stories that goes in between the novel; Second, the traditional style the book has; Third, the beautiful text and pictures in there. I often wonder how Grace Lin can create marvelous stories inside another story!
