一、It has long been known that the hunting scenes depicted on walls were not simply a form of artistic expression.大家早就知道,畫在墻上的狩獵圖景并不是單純的藝術(shù)表現(xiàn)形式。

【解析】

1. It has long been known that: “人們早就知道”,這個句型非常實用,在寫作的時候可以放在段首,引出要闡述的事實或者大家早就知道的道理,比如:It has been long known that the American Indians were not really Indians at all. 很久以來人們已經(jīng)知道美洲印第安人的確根本不是印度人。

2. Depict: “描繪;描畫”,后面通常搭配sb. /sth. as sb. /sth. ,比如,The media depict him as a left-wing bogeyman. 媒體把他描繪成一個左翼怪物。

作業(yè)一、我們早就知道吸煙有害健康,但廣告商卻把吸煙描繪得很酷和富有吸引力。

It has long been known that smoking is harmful to our health, but advertisers depict it as cool and attractive.

二、There are countless people who, ever since their early years, have learned to associate snail with food.

有不計其數(shù)的人從小就能把蝸牛和食物聯(lián)系起來(即知道蝸??梢猿裕?。

【解析】

1. Countless: “無數(shù)的;數(shù)不勝數(shù)的;數(shù)不盡的”,通常用在名詞前,比如,The sky was set with countless stars. 天空點綴著無數(shù)的星星。

2. Ever since: “自從;自…以后;從…起”,在句中位置比較靈活,比如:I was bitten by a dog once and I've been afraid of them ever since.我曾被狗咬過,自那以后就一直害怕狗。

3. Associate:“聯(lián)想;聯(lián)系”,后面常常搭配介詞with,比如:I always associate the smell of baking with my childhood. 一聞到烘烤食物的味道,我就想起了童年。

作業(yè)二、很多人從小就把家和安全感與愛聯(lián)系在一起,因為家是人們能夠得到庇護(hù)的地方。

Countless people have associated family with safety and love ever since their childhood, since home is the place where people can be sheltered.

三、Even though the road was littered with boulders and pitted with holes, Bruce was not in the least perturbed.

盡管路面布滿石頭,坑坑洼洼,但布魯斯一點兒也不慌亂。

【解析】 not in the least: 這是一個固定搭配,可以用來表達(dá)“絲毫沒有,一點也不”的含義,比如:That joke was not in the least funny. 那個笑話一點也不好笑。I'm not in the least afraid of you any more. 我現(xiàn)在一點都不怕你了。

作業(yè)三、我們早就知道,成功的道路上充滿障礙,但是無所畏懼的人卻總能披荊斬棘,開拓出自己的成功之路。

It has long been known that the road to success is full of obstacles, but people who are not in the leastfrightened will always blaze a trail to their own success.

四、No one can avoid being influenced by advertisements.沒有人能避免廣告的影響。

【解析】

1. no one在這里是主語,表示“沒有人”,比如,No one wished me a birthday. 沒人祝我生日快樂。

2. Avoid: “避免;防止”,這個詞大家都很熟悉,寫作的時候需要注意后面接doing sth. ,比如,They built a wall to avoid soil being washed away. 他們建了一堵墻防止土壤流失。

作業(yè)四、沒人能避免網(wǎng)絡(luò)的影響。它已經(jīng)滲透進(jìn)我們生活的方方面面,并且在可預(yù)見的未來會扮演更加重要的角色。

No one can avoid being influenced by the internet,which has penetrated into every aspect of our life and will play a bigger role in the foreseeable future.

五、No matter where you live, you would find it difficult not to laugh at, say, Charlie Chaplin’s early films.

比如說,不管你生活在哪里,你看了查理卓別林的早期電影很難不發(fā)笑。

【解析】

1. No matter: “無論怎樣,不管,不論”,和who, whose, what, which, where, when以及how連用。它們作為連詞,把分句連起來。后面常常用現(xiàn)在時表將來,比如:No matter where you go, I'll follow you. 不論你去哪兒,我都會跟著你。

2. Say: 單詞的意思是“比方說;假設(shè)”,這里相當(dāng)于一個插入語,for example,比如:Let's take any writer, say (= for example) Dickens.我們隨便舉一個作家為例,比如說狄更斯。

作業(yè)五、不管我們?yōu)楸Wo(hù)地球所做的努力有多么微不足道,比如,撿起公園里的垃圾或者減少使用一次性筷子,我們都為環(huán)保事業(yè)做出了貢獻(xiàn)。

No matter how insignificant our efforts to save the planet might be, say, picking up litter in the park or reducing the use of disposable chopsticks, we still make a contribution to the cause of environmental protection.
