GENERAL QUESTIONS – help narrow down the big topic and find a small moment
How were you affected by the [topic]?
What were the main events that happened?
Why did the [topic] happen?
What was the daily routine during the [topic]?
How old were you at the time of the [topic]?
What was the most interesting thing that happened to you during the [topic]?
Do any memories stick out to you?
What was the best thing about the [topic]?
What was the worst part about the [topic]?
During this time what moments impacted you?
What are some regrets or things you were proud of at this time?
What did you learn during the [topic]?
What is the scariest part about the [topic]?
Have you saved any possessions from [topic]?
DETAIL QUESTIONS – once you have chosen a small moment, to give you details about the moment you will write about
What did you see/hear/smell/taste/touch while you were there?
During that moment, what were you feeling or thinking?
What was on your mind most during that moment?
What were some of the thoughts going through your head when (the small moment) happened?
Who were the people you were with during that moment?
What was happening around you?
Why were you there when that moment happened?
On the day it happened what were you doing right before this moment?
What are some details about this small moment that I could build on?
What did you hear people saying and what did you say?
How were people around you interacting?
What was your surrounding like? What the weather like?
