2. 新知點(diǎn)：More about bumblebee

Bumblebees seem scary because they’re so big, but they’re generally gentle and unaggressive. Leave them alone and they’ll leave you alone too. Bumblebees live all over the U.S. You might see them in meadows or orchards. They are large and fuzzy with bright bands of yellow, black or red.

Bumblebees – Do They Make Honey?
Bumble bees fly from flower to flower, it can also collect nectors to eat like honeybees. Bumblebees make only a tiny bit of honey, but farmers like them because they pollinate crop so fruit grows. 

Bumblebees have two antennas. Bumble bees use their antennas to smell, feel and hear.

Habitat: nest in the ground. They don’t live in hives or paper nests, but they live in underground burrows, usually left over from mice or other small animals.
 

Unlike honeybees, bumblebees can sting more than once because their stingers are smooth and donot get caught in the skin when they fly away. If disturbed, bumblebees will buzz in a loud volume, and they will agressively defend their nests. Bumblebees only live for one season before they die.

bumbebees are considered to be beneficial insects because they pollinate crops and plants. They are very social bees and live in large families.

Each bumblebee has a special job. The queen bumblebee lays eggs, while the workers bring food and build an underground nest of wax. Drones are male bumblebees that mate with the queen.

At the end of the summer, worker bees sometimes kill the queen bee before dying themselves. New queen bees live alone over the winter and start a new colony in the spring.

A bumblebee will leave a scent on every plant / flower it lands on.

They have a fantastic in built mapping system, a worker bumblebee will fly over 2 km to find food and has no problem finding its way home. Not bad for a tiny insect.

Males will travel up to 10 km to find a mate.

Did you know that about 78% of our plant and trees need pollination. Bumblebees and honeybees and all bees need to be protected. Without them we as humans will struggle to survive and may not even survive at all.

Answer: Bumblebees seem to disappearing and scientists aren’t sure why.

Answer: Bumblebees use smell and body movement to communicate. After they’ve taken all the pollen from a flower, they leave a smell letting other bumblebees know that the flower is empty.

1:sting

eg. A wasp or bee sting is painful but not necess serious

why do we need bees? will they sting me?

No.Bees just sting when they feel in danger so just keep still and let them buzz by.

2:Drone雄蜂 Queen bee峰王 Busy bee工蜂

All drones are male, The drones mate with a queen. they are fed by busy bees.
 

Queen bee lays a thousand aggs everyday.  there is only one queen bee in a hive. It is also fed by busybees.

Busy bees collect nector and make them into honey everyday. Inside the hive, there are thousands like her, all worker bees are female. When they find more flowers they will have a waggle dance to show the way to find the flower nector.

Inside thehive, there are lots of cells likes boxes.

some cells are for the honey. (who makes honey?)

some cells are for the pollen. (busy bees collects pollen too.pollen and nector are all made into honey.)

some cells are for the eggs. (who lay eggs?)

why is that?

Pollen is special flower dust. Each flower needs pollen from another flower of the same kind so that it can make seeds.
