Raindrops keep falling

This is an excellent children's book filled with colorful illustrations and rhythmic text.

Poor little Ella has a houseful of umbrellas and her Mom has told her to start getting rid of them because her dear aunt is coming for a visit.

It is very difficult for Ella to start parting with them, as most children can relate to.

However, once she gets going, she finds that it gives her a wonderful feeling and she receives a delightful reward for it all.

The book teaches little ones about sharing and making decisions that aren't easy to do.

Great book for kids about 3 to 7 years old.

Ella's umbrella Ella has big umbrellas and small umbrellas. She had umbrella in pink, turquoise, and tangerine. She had them in every color even jellybean green. Several were striped and a few speckled with spots, a sprinkling had sparkles. A handful had hearts. Some opened slowly and plenty went pop. This is a whole page of umbrellas. This is a striped one, this is one with hearts. Ella had too many umbrellas. Look at the big pile. It was not her fault. Her family and friends knew that she loved umbrellas, so when she received a gift. A gift was undoubtedly an umbrella. So there was a gift box. Umbrellas are coming out of the gift box. Out of them all, Ella's favorite was a robin's egg blue. It came from someone special, kind aunt Stella from far-off Katmandu. To Ella's delight, Stella will come to visit that very day, and she is going to choose stay in Ella's room. Can you see Ella's room. An umbrella hanging over the door there is one on the desk. There is one hanging over the desk too. This one is on the floor. This one is on the top bunk. Three umbrellas on the bottom bunk. There is an umbrella underneath the bed. Do you think there is room for aunt Stella there? Ella's mother was used to be patient but today she was in a tizzy. "Ella" she cried. Aunt Stella will have no place to hang her coat. And Stella will have no place to put her clothes, and Stella will have no place to sleep. Look there are more umbrellas. Umbrellas.... Ella tried to fix the problem. She tided the coat closet. She took them out of the coat closet and she put them into the kitchen sink. She emptied her bedroom closet, and filled the bathtub. She cleared off the bottom bunk and loaded the dishwasher. "Ella" cried her mother. Your umbrellas were everywhere. You had so many. There are people in this world they don't have any. You must find a way to give your umbrellas away. Give her umbrellas away? Ella has hesitated, but since seeing her mother scowl, she gathered them all up. She got a big bag for umbrellas and some on her arms. She tossed them into in a humongous heap in the front yard. The blue from Katmandu, she kept safely by her side. She was carrying the blue one. She made a teeny tiny sign that said free umbrellas. We can hardly read it. In the distance, Ella hears the postman whistling, he came near but he didn't reach for an umbrella, instead he handed Ella a postcard. Here is a postcard. It said Dear Ella, see you soon, love you Ella twiddled her thumbs and waited and waited until her mother came out to mow the lawn. She spotted the tiny sign on the mountain of umbrellas. "Ella" she cried, you have too many umbrellas. You must find a better way to give them away. Ella slowly made a bigger sign. She piled all umbrellas into her red wagon, but held tight to the blue from Katmandu. Lugging her load towards town, she did not notice the creeping clouds all around. The wind came up. It started to sprinkle. The rain grew heavier and heavier.so it was a torrential downpour. Ella was here. These people opening the newspaper over their head to keep the rain off. Pitter patter splash, a jogger slowed down and gazed hopefully at Ella's wagon. To her surprise, he didn't take an umbrella. Ella examined her sign. She stared at her too many umbrellas then at the sad soggy jogger. "Wait" she shouted "take this". Thank you he said happily.  Bobbing off on his way. so he got a green one. Splish splash, a boy on a scooter was rushing through puddles. "Can I have one?","of course" he got a yellow one in stripes. Ella felt that she had given away too quite enough. She decided she turned towards home. But on her way back, she met a cold crossing guard and dripping day camp children. She met a drenched dog walker and waterlogged workmen- all without umbrellas. Each time, she gave one away, she felt a tiny bit sad but deep down she also thought glad. Soon only her favorite umbrella remained. Surely her mother wouldn't mind if she kept just this one. Still a few streets from home, Ella saw a figure plodding down the sidewalk, his blue cap was drenched, his sack was heavy and he certainly wasn't whistling. It was very hard but Ella knew what to do and there goes the blue umbrella from Katmandu. Back at home, a suitcase set by the door. “Stella” yell the Ella. Ella leaped into her arms. Stella handed her a long fan box. What do you think inside the long fan box? Inside it was the most precious umbrella Ella had ever seen. So Ella had a new umbrella.
